In the early 20thCentury, Republican Teddy Roosevelt presented a variety of policies under the Square Deal banner. The cornerstone of his policies was simple: Everyone deserved a square deal, the same set of rules, regulations and laws regardless of wealth, social position and political power.
The square deal was reaction to broad excesses of The Gilded Age: mass income inequality, concentration of tech wealth within a small group, and rampant corruption to keep it going; with a generous amount of sensational 'journalism' and imperialism.
The Square Deal of 1906 launched the Progressive Era in the United States. Roosevelt, officially known as a Republican actually was a Progressive Conservative inline with the new era; believer in strong defense as a backdrop for smart diplomacy, an advocate for women's rights and a promoter of universal health care for all Americans. A political brand for Center Right Progressives.
Throughout the 20thCentury presidents of both major political parties were Progressive Conservatives at their core: Eisenhower, Carter, Clinton and more recently Pete Buttigieg and Tim Walz..
In 2025, both major party 'brands' are toxic and in tatters. The GOP has been replaced by the MAGA Cult of Personality and the Democrats have no idea how to perform as a loyal opposition presenting a strong alternative to the status quo and the path forward.
The goal of squaredeal2026 is not to launch a new political party. Our goal is to create a launching pad for historically inspired ideas and policy for the 21stCentury. As well as an information refuge for Center Right voters.
